The Reactive Species Interactome in Red Blood Cells: Oxidants, Antioxidants, and Molecular Targets

نویسندگان

چکیده

Beyond their established role as oxygen carriers, red blood cells have recently been found to contribute systemic NO and sulfide metabolism act potent circulating antioxidant cells. Emerging evidence indicates that reactive species derived from the of O2, NO, H2S can interact with each other, potentially influencing common biological targets. These interactions encompassed in concept interactome. This review explores potential application interactome understand redox physiology RBCs. It specifically examines how are generated detoxified, Hemoglobin is a key player within RBCs, given its abundance fundamental O2/CO2 exchange, transport/metabolism, sulfur binding/production. Future research should focus on understanding modulation may regulate RBC biology, physiology, effects.

Interplay among Antioxidants and Oxidants in Psoriasis

Background: The etiology of psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin disease, has not been elucidated. However, Oxidant / antioxidant imbalance is suspected. The aim of this study was to evaluate oxidant / antioxidant status in psoriatic patients.Method: forty two psoriatic patients and 42 age and sex matched controls were recruited for this study. Serum total antioxidant ...

Oxidants, Antioxidants, and the Beneficial Roles of Exercise-Induced Production of Reactive Species

This review offers an overview of the influence of reactive species produced during exercise and their effect on exercise adaptation. Reactive species and free radicals are unstable molecules that oxidize other molecules in order to become stable. Although they play important roles in our body, they can also lead to oxidative stress impairing diverse cellular functions. During exercise, reactiv...

Plasmalogens: targets for oxidants and major lipophilic antioxidants.

Cellular membranes and plasma lipoproteins are less efficiently protected against oxidative stress than the various aqueous compartments of mammalian organisms. Here, previous results on the role of plasmalogens in lipid oxidation are evaluated on the basis of criteria required for an antioxidant. The plasmalogen-specific enol ether double bond is targeted by a vast variety of oxidants, includi...

COPD: balancing oxidants and antioxidants

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most common chronic illnesses in the world. The disease encompasses emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and small airway obstruction and can be caused by environmental exposures, primarily cigarette smoking. Since only a small subset of smokers develop COPD, it is believed that host factors interact with the environment to increase the prope...

Oxidants, antioxidants, alcohol and stroke.

Free radicals are involved in the formation of both atherosclerosis and thrombosis. Therefore, considerable interest has recently been aroused by their role in the development of ischemic cerebral injury. Experimental observations suggest that antioxidants could reduce cerebral arterial vasospasm, reduce infarct size and prevent the development of both atherosclerosis and thrombosis. However, c...
